For most of us, that means taking a cotton ball and polish remover to our chipping polish — be it the white or baby blue you loved in July — and popping on a more autumnal shade. If you're not sure what that should be, the seasoned nail pros break down the best pedicure shades for fall 2019, ahead.
At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

Creamy Taupe
When it comes to the first pedicure of the season, sometimes subtle shades feel refreshing. "Barely-there nude pedicures were extremely popular in L.A. this summer," says nail pro and Olive & June founder Sarah Gibson Tuttle. "The shade RP from our fall collection is the perfect way to transition from pale pinks and whites to slightly darker, taupe shades."

Amethyst
When you want something romantic, but pink feels too soft, a glossy amethyst purple is the move. Essie global educator Rita Remark says one of her favorite polishes in the category is Violet Baroque by YSL. "It has these gorgeous blackened jewel tones perfect for the season," she says.

Olive Green
Whether you call it army or olive, earthy shades of green are taking over the trend reports this fall, according to editorial nail artist Betina Goldstein. For toes, we're especially into this shade from OPI's Scotland fall collection.

Burnt Orange
According to nail pro and Jin Soon founder Jin Soon Choi and editorial manicurist Betina Goldstein, orange will be trending for fall. "This polish, called Koi, is the perfect transitional shade because it's not too bright, and shares shade similarity to the autumn leaves," Choi says.

Rich Burgundy
We've heard predictions that red-wine burgundy will be a big manicure trend (Kaley Cuoco just endorsed it), so it's no surprise that the color will be seen on toenails, too. "Nars Chinatown is classic, sophisticated burgundy — the perfect shade for matching manicures and pedicures," says Choi.

Navy Blue
The best part about a shiny navy-blue pedi is that it looks great on every skin tone, which is one of the reasons it will be trendy this fall, Choi tells us. The other reason is that the deeper jewel tone feels moody and chic, but more dimensional than black.

Slate Gray
A soft, creamy gray will be on trend for fingernails, and darker slate gray will be the pedicure to match. "I love this CND Asphalt shade for a dark-gray pedicure," says Choi. "It's a little unexpected — a grunge or hipster vibe — but also feels sleek and sophisticated at the same time."

Black Ink
Remark tells us that you can't go wrong with a full-shine black pedi for fall. "I love a black pedicure because it's bold, but will also work with whatever you're wearing," she explains. "Essie's Licorice is a glossy patent-leather black that's perfect."
