Note: This post was originally published on Jan. 12, 2016. With the return of Lizzie McGuire to Freeform this month, we thought we'd celebrate with this ode to Lizzie. Enjoy!
Lizzie McGuire premiered 15 years ago on January 12. Let's get the pressing "just how old am I?" questions out of the way first. Lizzie star Hilary Duff is 28, her son is 3, and today's preteens were born after The Lizzie McGuire Movie came out.
But just because you haven't seen a mass of kickballs descend on Duff in years doesn't mean the classic Disney Channel show isn't still relevant to your life. Like Lizzie, you still have moments of panic around your crush. There are days you're sure that weird thing your hair is doing is the only thing anyone is looking at. And you still have nothing to wear.
Now the only question is which Lizzie McGuire song is a better soundtrack for your 20s—"What Dreams Are Made Of " or "I Can't Wait." There are no bad options there.

It still stings when you grow apart from friends.
You thought outgrowing friendships would be over after your last group text from college went silent. But your work wife from your last job has flaked on your last three coffee dates, and you don't really want to get brunch with the friend you met at spin class anymore.

You're still finding new things about your appearance to freak out about.
Unlike during your Lizzie days, you can now fill out a bikini top (more or less). Though you're considering digging out the clip-in pink hair streak you bought in middle school to cover up the few gray strands you've spotted.

You're still experimenting with trends you really have no business trying.
The multi-color hair scrunchies didn't work for you in 2002, and bubble nails didn't work for you in 2015.

You still have a rebellious streak.
Sure, now it might manifest as eating lunch at 10:30 a.m. or deciding you're going to watch a new show out of order, but it's there.

Rejection hasn't gotten any easier.
Because age, life experience, and even the reassurance of professional and personal triumphs mean nothing in the face of that one moment when you realize the object or your affection doesn't like you back.

You still totally manage to say the wrong thing at times.
Whether that means tearing apart a piece of pop culture in front of a friend's new BF who happened to work on the set design, or talking about a political conflict you haven't read enough about, there are still plenty of moments you feel the need to hide in the bathroom forever.

Your closet still isn't cooperative.
Whether waking up on picture day or confronting your closet just before a big date, you always have a clear vision of what you want to wear — and your wardrobe never seems to deliver.

You're still trying to figure out which identities to try on.
Maybe in 2016 you will be a SoulCycle girl. Or a morning person. Or someone who is totally into juice cleanses. You never know.

Your friendships can still be influx.
Falling for a friend isn't just the stuff of rom-coms. But friendships changing and evolving doesn't always have to mean romance — you can realize you share a hobby with an acquaintance who suddenly becomes a bridesmaid candidate.

"Accidental fashion twins" is still a concern.
You've gained perspective since middle school. There are real problems in the world, and showing up to the big office party in the exact same dress as a coworker isn't that big a deal. Just the centerpiece of a recurring nightmare you've had since grad school.
