These Pretty Little Liars Theories Give Us Hope For Season 7

Pretty Little Liars is not known for being straightforward. In Rosewood, anything goes — characters die, then come back to life; multiple people have secret siblings; and half the town has spent time in the local sanitarium, Radley (which has now conveniently become a hotel for the other half of the town to frequent). Rosewood’s foundation is, as the show’s title suggests, built on lies. And there is a fan theory for every single one.

The Liars — Hanna (Ashley Benson), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Aria (Lucy Hale), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Caleb (Tyler Blackburn), Ezra (Ian Harding), Ali (Sasha Pieterse) and Toby (Keegan Allen) have all teamed up to hopefully put a stop to Uber A once and for all....seven years later. Considering the girls have been kidnapped and forced to live in a life-size dollhouse, had several questionable relationships with authority figures, listened to the commands of creepy dolls in multiple episodes, and all almost died multiple times, anything could happen. Here are the crazy theories that we think could actually come to pass on season 7 of Pretty Little Liars. Will we finally get satisfying answers for all of our questions from the last six years?

"That Night" Wasn't An Accident

This show really loves to refer to every night as "that night," but in this case, we're harking back to the original reference — the night Ali and the Liars threw a smoke bomb into the Cavanaugh's garage and accidentally blinded Jenna. Or at least that is the story we've been told.

But what if it wasn't an accident? This is something that many people have wondered over the years, but with Jenna's sketchy return, this theory returned to the internet with a vengeance. It really seems like maybe Ali planned the attack its consequences for Jenna all along. Why?

1. She knew Toby wasn't the one recording her. So why did she pretend like he was and convince the girls to go along with her?

2. She most likely already knew about N.A.T. Club since she was involved with Ian. So again, why make up the lie about Toby?

3. She is the only one who looked into the garage before putting in the smoke bomb. She definitely would have seen Jenna in there.

4. She ALREADY had a smoke bomb in her pocket. Why would she be carrying that around just for fun?

5. "A" was already texting her, so she was on high alert. Did she think Jenna was "A"?

6. She always said "secrets make us close" about her and her friends, so maybe she wanted a huge secret to bond the group and make sure they weren't "A"?

The story line of Jenna's blindness hasn't gone away, and for some reason, the girls continue to make insensitive jokes about the "blind girl" as if they forgot they are responsible for her condition in the first place. So is there really more to this story after all?

Jason & Aria In Love?

When Jason first moved back to town, he had one of his most touching moments with Aria. He confessed that in the drunk haze of his college years, he mainly remembered Aria's pink hair. He told her he missed her locks, and something of a love triangle between Ezra, Aria, and Jason was born.

Pretty Little Liars creator I. Marlene King recently said that Jason dated one of the Liars during the five-year gap, and most people are theorizing that secret girlfriend was Aria. Could this mean a rocky road for the newly engaged Ezria? And why do both of the men returning from Aria's past have to be the ones who were totally inappropriate for her to date at the time?

Thank goodness Holden (Shane Coffey), one of her only age-appropriate beaus, will also be returning this season.

We'll Finally Say Goodbye To Sara Harvey

Tonight might be the last night of everyone's least favorite character. We know that someone is going to be murdered tonight. Shower, we mean, Sara Harvey (Dre Davis), is the most suspected character going into tonight. The official show description says someone gets murdered for "playing for the wrong team." Sara was previously on Charlotte's (Vanessa Ray) team and now she is getting really buddy buddy with Jenna (Tammin Sursok). We know those two didn't get along, so will we once and for all learn the difference between the A club and the N.A.T. club and friends? Please, can this happen? That would be an episode worth watching.

Shout-out to HalebLover on Reddit who said, "I'd LOVE for Sara to die in the shower." Considering how often she showers, not only would it be fitting but a nice allusion to past noir films, something Pretty Little Liars has done so well in the past.

"Miss Aria You're A Killer, Not Ezra's Wife"

In one of the craziest episodes of season 3, Aria and Hanna visited Mona in Radley and she said, "Miss Aria you're a killer, not Ezra's wife." The episode then cut to a flashback of Mona teaching Hanna to speak code, where the first letter of each word offers a secret meaning. In this case it was "Maya Knew." But what did Maya know? We still haven't found out. I'm hoping that question will still be answered (as you know, I don't believe Maya is dead).

But, in a Pretty Little Liars subreddit, one user has a plausible theory that maybe this particular sentence wasn't about the code, but actually calling out Aria. The current explanation that Mona hit Bethany over the head with a shovel before getting in her car and picking up Ali makes little sense. Aria did wake up that night in the barn, so what if she did it?

And if her relationship has anything to do with this, then we will find out soon. The writers have made it pretty clear that Aria may be Ezra's wife soon...for better or worse.

It All Comes Down To “The Jenna Thing”

Update: After last week's episode, this is seeming even more likely to be true. We found out that Elliott (Huw Collins) is actually named Archer Dunhill (yes, he is the A.D. who has been texting them), and Jenna has somehow been involved in the scheme this whole time.

We also learned something happened between her and Toby three years ago that further drove them apart, but did it also give her a new reason to hate the Liars even more?

Has she been Uber A since she first came to town in her Lady Gaga costume? She did already know who Ali and her friends were — perhaps it was because of a connection to Charlotte, Mary Drake, or some other person scorned by the family of the Liars. Maybe Jenna's desire for revenge started before "that night."

We spent all of first season wanting to know was what happened "that night" — finally learning Ali, with help from the girls, ended up blinding Jenna (Tammin Sursok) in a prank gone very wrong. More than anyone, Jenna has the motive to hate Ali and her friends, and she had plenty of time to dig up dirt and make alliances while she was at the school for the blind.

Let’s not forget that Aria killed her girlfriend, Shana (Aeriél Miranda), and that mystery has yet to come out. So, we can expect a lot more of Jenna this season.

Emison (Creepily) Connected

Emily and Alison have always been connected. Ali was Emily's first kiss and first love, and Ali has always said Emily was "her favorite."

At the end of season 6, Emily donated her eggs for money — and this being Rosewood, her eggs were stolen. The cover-up she used to hide that she was donating her eggs was briefly mentioned in the last episode, which could be a clue that this theory from reddit is true.

According to the theory, Elliot stole Emily's eggs, fertilized them, and they were implanted into Ali when she was moved to the room with the "light." It looked like an operating room, and it wouldn't be the first time someone has used a baby to force a bad couple to stay together.

Creator I. Marlene King has always said that Emison has a "special connection," but is this what she meant?

Uber A Is Hiding In Plain Sight

Remember what Uber A told the Liars? "I don’t lurk in the shadows, I hide in plain sight.” That's sparked a theory that Uber A could be Spencer Hastings—or maybe even a secret Spencer twin. The Outlast broke down this theory on Tumblr. Spencer is smarter than everyone else. She's been in Radley (and all roads lead back to Radley). And she's been on the A Team before.

Interestingly enough, The Outlast points out that Spencer has made references to Basic Instinct, particularly the killer's alibi, which mirrors her own if she's really Uber A. Plus, this Reddit gives a small reminder that the first time we heard from "A.D." was thanks to Spencer.

There's also the odd "dream" sequence Hanna had in the Season 7 premiere, which includes a visit from Spencer. Dreams are never really dreams on this show, which could mean Spencer was really there. But the strangest part? Her new flash-forward bangs were missing. Could it really be someone pretending to be Spencer? Maybe a secret twin or maybe even her big sister —and N.A.T. member —Melissa?

Double The Trouble

Twins have always been a part of the show. Fans of the books know that in them, the ultimate "A" is Ali's twin. The show has proven that is not the route they are taking, but that doesn't mean "A" couldn't be someone else's twin. What if the creepy blond children that continually appear, especially around Halloween, are actually flashbacks of Mrs. DiLaurentis and Mary Drake? Not only did we learn they are identical twins, but Mary Drake was sent to Radley Sanitarium after a kid whom she was babysitting died. This is very similar to the story we heard Ali tell Hanna when we were first introduced to the twins. Maybe it's a story Mrs. D told her daughter, and it was all based on her own life?

This still leaves a lingering question: Why are these grown women attacking a bunch of kids 30 years younger than them?

N.A.T. Is Never Done

The first season of Pretty Little Liars focused on the "first generation" of liars — Jason, Ian, CeCe, Melissa, and Garrett. Three of them are dead, and one was revealed to be "A." Yet, there are a lot of questions left unanswered.

Why were they videotaping the whole town? At one point Ian said, "There are things on here that could bring everybody down, including your family." What would the footage reveal? Could it be the origins of CeCe?

Jason also said that Ian would pay girls to set up their friends to be filmed, and that he suspected Ian was filming them for someone else. The town is full of pervy men who like to hook up with younger girls (see: Ian, Mr. Montgomery, Ezra, Wren, Detective Wilden, Officer Holbrook, Garrett), so there are a lot of people who may want to see these videos — my money would be on Mr. Montgomery. The person who video-stalked the whole town could easily be "Uber A," and this reveal would huge. So here's hoping!

The "Nerd's" Revenge

Why would someone who hated high school become a successful millionaire elsewhere, and then move back? Lucas (Brendan Robinson) has been part of the mystery from the very beginning. Ali made his life horrible, and in early seasons, he was always acting guilty. It doesn't make sense that he would ever want to step foot in Rosewood again, let alone live there. Was he coming back for the girl he loved, since Hanna was no longer dating Caleb? Did he know who "A" was, so now with Charlotte dead he feels safe? Or was he "A" the whole time?

This past season, his smart house caught on fire with the Liars inside. Every time he offers to help, something goes wrong. Honestly, Hanna should be really nervous that he offered her a store and basically anything she wanted. Did he kidnap her because she was about to get married and leave him for good?

Even The Boyfriends Are Prime Suspects

Almost every character has been unmasked as "A" at some point in the series, but none of the reveals have been as heartbreaking as Toby's. Spencer fell apart when she learned her boyfriend was part of the team stalking, threatening, and attacking her and her friends. When Spencer reunited with Toby, the rest of us wondered why she believed that he was innocent. Clearly, "A" is good at hiding and lying.

It didn't make sense. How did he not know who "A" was if he was looking for information the whole time? How did he escape so easily? If he betrayed "A," why isn't he dead? And how could he so conveniently have been missing for months doing construction work in Bucks County, where the Dollhouse the girls were locked in was located? Speaking of, how is there an EXACT replica of the chair he made Spencer in her room? Is he the real "A"?

Maya Is Still "A"live

Maya (Bianca Lawson) getting killed by a random stalker from her time at rehab has never made sense. If her death had nothing to do with the larger story line, then what was up with her website, and why would Mona give them the anagram "MAYA KNEW"?

There have always been some red flags that Maya is a key part of the mystery, and this tumblr explains them well. Maya moved into Ali’s old house that somehow was still filled with tons of Ali’s old stuff. On the same day that Emily meets Maya, the girls start getting "A" messages full of secrets from Ali’s diaries. Plus, there are a lot of other questions: How did Ali’s diaries go from Maya to Mona? Why was Maya in Ali’s room in a blond wig? Why was Maya friends with all the sketchy people — Garrett (Yani Gellman), Noel (Brant Daugherty), Jason (Drew Van Acker), and Holden (Shane Coffey)?

Ali Killed Charlotte

UPDATE: At least as of right now, this theory looks like it was spot on.

For years, we watched flashbacks of Ali (Sasha Pieterse) tormenting the girls. Yet, it didn’t take long for them to forgive her when she came back. We were expected to believe that Ali had changed for the better. But what if she didn't? We’ve seen how she likes to manipulate and use people. What if during five years of taking care of Charlotte (Vanessa Ray), she was really just scheming a master revenge plot?

Charlotte did ruin her life, try to kill her, and torment her and her “friends” for years. It makes sense she’d want revenge and even set up the girls for murder, if it kept her looking innocent.

We Know One Of Those Eerie, Blonde Twins

We finally saw a twin reveal in the season 6 finale — turns out Mrs. DiLaurentis (Andrea Parker) has a twin sister. Since they've already changed the twin reveal for TV (in the books, Ali has a twin), why can't there be two sets of twins?

Ever since the original Halloween episode when the two young, blond twins first appeared, there has been speculation that one of them could be Ali or Hanna. Now that we know about Charlotte, it seems unlikely there is another hidden DiLaurentis kid. But Hanna is an appealing choice since in one of the Halloween episodes, only Ms. Marin (Laura Leighton) could see the ghost of the twin.

Hanna having a twin would offer a nice tie-in to the girls, and would finally explain the eerie presence of those twins in Ravenswood, in Ms. Marin's house, and in the story that Ali told while babysitting. They've been mentioned too many times to be a coincidence!

Wren Is "Uber A"

Wren (Julian Morris) has always been sketchy for multiple reasons, including that he cheated on his fiancée with her underage sister. He also hooked up with said underage sister’s best friend. But aside from Rosewood’s tendency to have older men in relationships with underage girls, there are plenty of other red flags around Wren.

He knew about CeCe really being Charlotte, and gave her visitor passes in and out of Radley. He also has the same poster in his apartment that was in the dollhouse — interesting, since everything else was modeled after the girls’ own rooms. There are a lot of clues, considering this theory has been around since season 1. Yet recently, it’s evolved to say that Wren is Bethany’s brother, which gives him a motive.

There is one big, lingering question, though — how could he be "Uber A" from London?

Andrew Campbell Will Come Back As "A"

For a while, Andrew (Brandon Jones) was the main suspect. We now know that he isn’t Charles or Charlotte, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be Uber A. After the girls publicly accused him of being Ali’s murderer, he has every reason to hate them. Plus, his family farm is connected to a young Ali and Charlotte, where this whole mystery began. The last thing we heard from him was, “The school wants you gone just as much as the rest of us.” Maybe he is still trying to make sure they leave.
