The eyeliner was in-your-face, the lips were impossible to ignore, and the hairstyles were all about curls, curls, curls. Even the looks of our youth (pigtails, anyone?) got edgy updates — and we relished the drama of it all. But somehow, the hair and makeup still seemed wearable. We have a feeling you’ll be seeing (and rocking) these looks before the fall 2016 fashion even hits stores.
Ahead, check out the top beauty trends of the season.
Power-Goth Lips
No, these aren't your typical berries and plums for fall. The latest crop of dark lip shades has some serious strength — and we love that. Come fall, we plan on wearing the hell out of this two-toned look at Creatures of the Wind.
The deep wine lips at Nicholas K had a velvety texture, which was instantly alluring.
Black brows at Rodarte grounded the nearly black pout.
Is there anything as powerful as black lips? (Though we might shake out the dry shampoo, personally.)
Polished Curls
Buh-bye, sleek blowouts and smooth waves. This season, hairstylists were pulling out foam rollers and tiny curling irons to define coils. Curly bangs, like the ones we spotted backstage at Diane von Furstenberg's '70s-inspired show, were commonplace — and we're not mad about it.
The hair at Mara Hoffman was part curl, part crimp, and full-on romantic.
Brushed-out curls gave the hair at Zac Posen an Old Hollywood vibe.
A touch of intentional frizz made the curls at Altuzarra insanely wearable — and so, so cool.
Early-Aughts Liner
Remember your first bout with eyeliner? When you'd simply drag a kohl pencil along your water- and lashlines and call it a day? If the fully rimmed eyes at shows like 3.1 Phillip Lim were any indication, it's time for a comeback.
A glossy, smudged-out version at Adam Selman gave this look a sophisticated edge.
We love this periwinkle shade as a modern update on our favorite middle-school liner.
Is it just us, or did the whole look at Karen Walker remind you of your high-school yearbook?
Double-Dutch Hair
When it came to styles this season, two was always better than one. At shows like Michael Kors, stylists were creating pigtails — whether they were ponytails, braids, or anything in-between.
How cool were these ultra-tight braids at Creatures of the Wind?
The braids at A Détacher were connected in the center, which made us think of a jump rope.
Can we thank Star Wars for these Princess Leia buns?
Graphic Liner
Sure, you may not be able to wear this crazy, artsy liner to work. Call us nuts, but we think it would look rad at a party. Or, you know, on Halloween.
The liner at Oscar de la Renta ventured into '60s territory with a swatch of black along the eye crease.
Can't do a cat-eye? Just add a quick dash to the lower lashline, like here at A Détacher, and you're done.
The bleached brows at Marc Jacobs made the cartoonish liner pop that much more.
